How do I turn features on or off?

Open Manage → Features. A new event starts with RSVP on and everything else off. The page lists every feature in the order the event meets it: with the invitation, before the day, on the night, and after. Menu and Potluck sit side by side under Food, and Photos, the Photo booth and the Projector under Photos. Check-in, the door list for the day itself, is the first thing on the night. Insights, the charts of how the answers, arrivals and photos are adding up, is with the features before the day: it is off for a new event like the rest, and can be suggested once ten invitations have been answered on an event that asks guests to RSVP.

Four cards among them are not features, since there is nothing to switch on: Co-hosts, the first card with the invitation; Reminders, the automatic reminder and thank-you, the first before the day; and, where they apply, Event staff on the night and, on the website, Tags before the day. Each says what it holds, such as None yet, 2 co-hosts or Reminder on, and its button (Add a co-host, Set up, or Edit once it holds something) opens the place it is kept: co-hosts and staff under Hosts in the event's settings, tags in the Guests tab's Settings, and the reminder and thank-you in Messaging's Settings. An older version of the app lists them as rows under Help running it, below the features.

At the top, Suggested for this party shows what your Overview suggests, one card on a phone and two on a wider screen: each says why it would help, its name opens its sheet, and Turn on and Don't suggest this work as they do on its card below. When the Overview suggests only one, the second place holds the next idea strong enough to be suggested, if there is one, but never a second new question for the RSVP form, and at a memorial or another tender occasion the row keeps to one. Co-hosts takes the first place whenever your Overview would suggest a co-host (after the Opening when that leads), and Reminders a place left over while your event is published, more than a day away, and neither message is set. With nothing to suggest the row is not there. An older version of the app does not show this row, or shows it without Don't suggest this.

Under it, Find a feature narrows the page as you type, matching a feature's name, its description and the words its rules go by, so deadline finds RSVP. Filter beside it shows chips for All, On, Suggested, Off and Not for this event; apart from All, a chip with nothing in it, or with every feature in it, is not shown, and the chips stay open while one other than All is chosen.

Each card says in a line what the feature does, and where it stands, in the same words everywhere:

• On, with what it holds so far, such as On · 3 dishes, or On · no dishes yet before anything has been added.
• Off.
• Suggested, with a line saying why it would help this event: the features in Suggested for this party, at most two. Your Overview suggests one thing at a time, at the foot of the page: a cover photo while your event has none; then the Opening, while most guests have yet to open the invitation; then Add a co-host, on your own event while nobody is helping, until the last week before the day; then a feature, or Pick a theme for your own pages. The ✕ beside a cover, co-host or theme suggestion stops it, and a theme waved off stays off for your whole account. An older version of the app suggests only a cover photo and features there. What is suggested follows the kind of event your title and details describe, how many are coming, and how close the day is, so a dance party, a potluck and a dinner are offered different things. While the event is a draft with nobody on the list, the only feature suggested is the Opening, since it is part of the invitation you are making, and once every feature is on or set to Not for this event, the Overview stops suggesting anything.
• Off · 3 dishes kept: switched off, with what was added still there.
• Needs RSVP: built on the RSVP, which is off for this event.
• Not for this event: you asked not to have it suggested.

The sheet

Press a card's name or its line to open its sheet and read about the feature without turning it on. Turn on opens the same sheet and switches the feature on, and Edit opens it for a feature that is already on. The sheet holds the feature's switch and its rules, such as the guest limit for RSVP or how many songs each guest may request. A rule saves as you change it. Two buttons sit at the foot of the sheet. Go to Menu (or the feature's own name) opens the feature's page while it is on, if it has one. Preview opens the Design room where guests meet the feature, with that part lit; a feature guests meet in more than one place first asks See it on…, such as The RSVP form or Guest home. A part that depends on a rule, such as Seating's Your table, on the day, is still listed while that rule is off, with what turns it on, such as Turn on “Tell guests their table” to preview it here, and opens once it is on. In an older version of the app, the sheet instead lists Guests see it on with See it in Design, and the Go to link sits in the sheet. Press Done to close the sheet, or Escape on a keyboard. A value the sheet can't keep, such as a time for voting to open after the party ends, is never closed over silently: on the website, and in the app from version 1.4, closing asks first, with Keep editing or Don't save.

The same sheet opens from every way in: the card, Settings at the top of its tab (on the website's Guests tab, Settings and then RSVP rules), a result in Search setup and features, which lands on the rule it matched, a suggestion on your Overview, the cards beside the RSVP form in Design → Details, where the Menu and the Guest map appear once they are on, and Potluck once its sheet asks on the RSVP form, and on the website the Opening card at the top of Design → Look. In the app the sheet rises from the bottom of the screen, and on a tablet it opens as a card in the middle; Done closes it in both. The Opening is the one feature with a page rather than a sheet: every way in opens its own page in the Design room, with the same switch and choices (in an app version before 1.6, a sheet). Some features need something before they can be on. Some guests join later asks when those guests arrive, and the Wifi card asks for the network's name; choosing or entering it is what turns them on. Turning on the Photo booth turns on Photos too, and so does adding an award for a photo. Awards needs nothing else on, RSVP included: see How do I run awards at my event?

Turning a feature off

Switch it off in its sheet. Guests stop seeing it, and nothing is deleted: the dishes, songs, photos and notes stay, and turning the feature back on brings them back. If switching one off would switch another off as well, as Photos does to a photo booth that is on, the sheet says so and asks you to switch it off a second time. Turning the Wifi card off clears the network and password, and turning Some guests join later off clears when later guests arrive.

RSVP

RSVP is a feature like the others. With it off, guests are not asked to answer: the invitation tells them to just come, and the answers you already have are kept. Your list is still who gets the invitation: Guests stays, without the chips about answers, and in an app version before 1.3 the Guests tab goes while Invite stays. Check-in works either way. Menu, Potluck, the Guest map, Nametags, Seating and Some guests join later read Needs RSVP while it is off. Don't suggest this

Every card that is off, other than RSVP itself and any waiting on RSVP, offers Don't suggest this, and so do Co-hosts and Reminders while they hold nothing. Waving Co-hosts off is the same as the ✕ on your Overview's co-host suggestion, and waving Reminders off also stops your Overview offering to set up the reminder and thank-you. The card moves to Not for this event at the foot of the page and stops being suggested on your Overview, which lets the next suggestion in. It can still be turned on from there, and Bring it back, in its sheet, returns it to its place. Design suggests nothing, so a sheet opened there offers neither, and a feature that is suggested or waved off reads Off on its card there. A suggestion on your Overview can be waved off the same way, the cover photo's included; once waved off, a cover can still be added in Design.

Custom wording

Custom wording is off for a new event, so the RSVP form, the confirmation, the guest home and the closed doors read our words. On, the words you write on those pages, and the confirmation's own sections, take over; off again, ours come back, the sections are hidden, and everything you wrote is kept. The countdown

The Countdown shows guests how long until the event, under the date on the invitation. Its sheet's Count chooses Days, which reads "12 days to go" and "Today" on the day, or To the second, a ticking clock, and shows it under the choice while there is still time to count. A new event starts on Days.

The Guest map

The Guest map (its own tab) shows where out-of-town guests are coming from, and it is the same switch as the RSVP question that asks them. Turning the Guest map on adds the question to your RSVP form, and turning it off takes the question away; the answers guests already gave are kept either way. Its rule Guests see the map too shows guests who are coming the places and how many are traveling from each, never names.

Search setup and features finds every feature and rule, on or off, and opens its sheet where you are.
