How to do it
You can close your Cut the Cake account yourself, from either the app or the website. It is the same account and the same button in both places.
- In the app — open the account control in the header, then Delete account at the foot of the page.
- On the web — sign in and go to your account page, then Delete account.
If you can’t sign in, use our contact form and we will do it for you. We may need to check that the address is yours before we act.
What happens straight away
The moment you confirm, you are signed out on every device, and the events only you could run go to the recycle bin with you.
Some events are not yours to take. An event you handed to another host stays with them. If you are a coordinator at a venue, the venue’s events belong to the venue and carry on without you. Nothing a guest can still reach disappears because a different person left.
You have 30 days to change your mind
For 30 days the account and its events are recoverable. Sign back in and a bar at the top of every screen offers to put it all back — you have to press it. We do not treat signing in as changing your mind, because people sign in for reasons that are not a decision.
After 30 days it is permanent. The account, its events, the guest lists, the photographs and the guestbook are deleted for good, and we cannot restore them. Photos, notes and songs you added to other people's events will be deleted.
What we keep, and why
We keep records we are required to keep — payment and tax records, mainly — for as long as the law says, and no longer. Everything else goes. Our privacy policy is the fuller account of what we hold and why.
If you would like a copy of your data before you delete it, ask through the contact form first. Once the 30 days are up there is nothing left to send you.
