The short version
Cut the Cake sends text messages about events you have been invited to, and only to people whose host or venue added them to a specific guest list. Every message identifies the event. You can reply STOP at any time to stop receiving them. We never sell or rent phone numbers.
What messages we send
- Invitations. A single message when a host invites you to their event, with a link to the invitation and RSVP.
- RSVP confirmations. A message confirming your answer after you respond.
- Reminders and updates. Occasional messages before the event, or if the host changes the date, time or location.
- Account messages. Sign-in links and security notifications, if you create an account with us.
We do not send marketing messages on our own behalf, and hosts cannot use Cut the Cake to text people who are not on the guest list for one of their events.
How consent works
Hosts and venues add guests to an event guest list, and confirm when they do so that they have a relationship with those guests and permission to contact them about the event. Guests who provide their own phone number during RSVP are consenting to receive messages about that event.
A venue may also invite guests to opt in to hearing about future events. That is a separate, clearly-labeled choice, it is never pre-checked, and declining it does not affect your RSVP.
Message frequency
Frequency varies by event. A typical guest receives between one and five messages for a single event: the invitation, a confirmation, and up to a few reminders. We do not send recurring messages outside the lifecycle of an event you were invited to.
Stopping messages
- Reply STOP to any message to stop all further text messages from that sender. We will send one confirmation that you have been unsubscribed, and nothing after it.
- Reply HELP for information about the messages you are receiving and how to reach us.
- You can also ask us to remove your number through our contact form.
Opting out of texts does not cancel your RSVP, and you will still be able to view the invitation by link.
Costs
Message and data rates may apply. Cut the Cake does not charge guests for text messages, but your mobile carrier may. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery is not guaranteed on every network or device.
Your number
We use phone numbers to deliver the messages described above and for nothing else. We do not sell, rent, or share phone numbers with third parties for their own marketing. We share numbers with our messaging provider solely to deliver your messages. See our privacy policy for the full picture.
Supported carriers
We support the major North American carriers. Carrier support can change without notice, and we cannot guarantee delivery on every network.
