How do I turn texts about an event on or off?

Texts are offered only when the host asks guests for a mobile number. You can say yes on the RSVP form, or later from your account page.

From your account page

Open the account control at the top of your page for the event (your initials), choose Your details, and find Messages from hosts. There is one row per party, with an Email box and a Texts box.

• Ticking Texts opens the opt-in under the party: your mobile number, which you can change, and the same unticked box the RSVP form shows, with the messaging policy, terms and privacy policy beneath it. Tick that box and press Turn on texts. The Texts box is ticked once that is done, and your first text confirms the signup. Cancel leaves texts off.
• Unticking Texts ends texts about that party at once. Nothing else about your RSVP changes.

Where a party cannot text you, the Texts column says why instead of showing a box: Not offered when the host does not ask for a mobile number, Once you're coming until you answer yes, and RSVP closed once the party no longer takes answers.

Changing your number turns texts off for the old one, so you are asked to tick the box again for the new one.

Turn everything off, above the table, turns off email and texts for every party listed, after a second press that says how many. It covers only the parties listed today, and a text can be turned back on only through the opt-in.

Other ways

On the RSVP form, tick the text box under Mobile number and send your answer. To stop texts to your number from every party, answer any text from Cut the Cake with STOP. Answer HELP for help.

Texts come only from Cut the Cake about the one event, never from your host's own phone. Answering a text does not reach your host. A host's message comes to you by email while your email is on and by text while texts are on, so with both on you get both.
