How do I nominate and vote for awards?

Open Awards from your guest page. Put something forward for each award, tap your favorite once voting opens, and change your mind until it closes.

On the website only.

Open Awards from your guest page for the event. It appears once your host has named the awards. Before the party it lists them and says when nominations open.

Awards is on the website. It comes to the Cut the Cake app with version 1.2; until then, open your invitation's link in a browser.

Nominate

Under each award, press Nominate a photo, Nominate a dish or Nominate someone.

  • A photo comes from the event's album or its photo booth, so add yours to the album first. Above the photos you can narrow them where there is something to narrow: Album or Booth, Mine, Added by a person, and When, by the hour. Clear takes the filters off, and the button that nominates stays at the foot of the screen while you scroll.
  • A dish is picked from the Potluck sign-up sheet when the event has one, or typed. Your host can keep an award to some of the sheet's categories, so the list may be shorter than the sheet, or take an award off the sheet, so there is no list; Add a dish by name types one that is not listed. Add a description adds a line saying what it is.
  • A person is picked from the guests who said yes, where your host shows who's coming. The list leaves out the people on your own answer. Add a description adds the line the room will know them by. They see they were nominated. Where there is no list and your host lets anyone at the party vote, you type the person's name instead; a name already nominated is refused.

Where the event has photos, Add a picture puts one beside a person or a dish.

You have one nomination for each award. Change your nomination replaces it, unless somebody else has already voted for it; then it stays on the ballot beside your new one. If the page says The host is choosing the nominees, there is nothing to put forward for that award.

You can also nominate with no account, from the code: see below.

Vote

Once voting opens, tap your favorite for each award. It is marked Your vote. Tap another to change it, or tap it again to take it back, until voting closes. You can keep nominating while voting is open.

Everyone on your answer who is coming gets a vote. If that is more than one of you, the page asks Who is voting?: choose a name, vote, then choose the next, or pass the phone along.

The host and any co-hosts vote too, whether or not they answered the invitation.

You can vote for something you nominated. You cannot vote for yourself unless your host allows it, and that covers your own name, a photo you added and a dish you signed up to bring.

If you see Your pick was taken off the ballot. Choose again., the entry you voted for has left the ballot, and your vote is yours to cast again.

Vote with no account

Scan the code on the screen, or open the link your host sends. It opens in your browser. The code on the screen's banner opens the party's page, with the awards above the photos: press Nominate for tonight's awards there, or Vote for tonight's awards once voting is open. The ballot has a See the photos link back when there are photos. If you are signed in and you said you are coming, the ballot takes you to your own Awards page. Otherwise, once voting is open, it asks Who are you?

  • Where your host shows who's coming, find your name and press That's me. The names are the guests who said they are coming; if yours is not there, Answer the invitation is offered where the invitation is open to you, and your ballot is on your own page once you have said yes. While nothing has been nominated yet, the page asks you to nominate first: an award takes votes as soon as it has a nominee. A name marked Already voting is taken, by the account that answered for you or by another phone. If that is a mistake, tell the host, who can free it.
  • Where your host lets anyone at the party vote, type a name of up to 20 characters, pick an icon and press Start voting. The name and the icon show on the screen. A name on the guest list, or one somebody is already voting as, is refused.

It is one name for each phone. Not you?, pressed twice, gives the ballot up. The same page shows each winner as it is revealed.

Where your host lets guests nominate, the same page asks who you are as soon as nominations open, and each award has its Nominate button. A person is picked from the list, or typed where there is no list and your host lets anyone at the party vote; a dish is picked from the Potluck sheet or typed; and a photo is picked from the photo booth's pictures or sent from your phone with Upload a photo, which also adds it to the event's album under your name; the upload is offered while the event's Photos are on. The album is not shown here: to nominate a photo already in it, sign in. It is one nomination for each award, and Change your nomination replaces it. Your name shows beside what you nominated, to the host and to guests on their own Awards pages.

If you are nominated

Your Awards page says so under that award. To step out, press Take me out, then press again to confirm. Nobody is told, votes for you are dropped, and nobody else can put you back. Put me back returns you to the ballot while nominations or voting are open.

When the winners appear

The top of your Awards page shows where things stand in up to three words, Nominate, Vote and Winners, with a line under them. Each winner appears there as it is announced, the newest largest.

After voting closes, each award reads Sealed until your host reveals it, one at a time. While a screen is playing a reveal, your page says the award is being announced and the winner follows a few seconds later. If there is a screen at the party, your phone shows a winner once the screen has. Anything your host has not revealed appears at 9:00 AM the next morning, or the same morning for a party that ends after midnight.

Entries that share the most votes share the award. You see how many votes each entry got only if your host chose to show that.
