How do I run the photo booth and show pictures on a screen?

Both live under Photos in Manage → Features, beside the album. Each has its own switch: the booth needs Photos, because its shots land there, and the projector needs nothing.

The booth runs in the Cut the Cake app on a tablet, or in a browser on a computer with a webcam. Press Turn on on the Photo booth card, which turns on Photos too, then open Photo booth. On a tablet, it offers Start photo booth; on a computer, Start the booth in this browser.

In a browser, allow the camera when asked, choose the camera if the computer has more than one, then press Start the booth. Guests click or tap the screen to start a round, and a space bar, Enter or a presenter clicker works too. A browser can't lock itself the way an iPad can, so keep the keyboard out of reach. To leave, hold the top-left corner until it fills, then press Exit. If the network drops, the photos wait in that browser and send once it's back; while any are waiting, Booth says so on that computer and offers Send now.

The booth counts down before its first shot: 5 seconds on a new event, or 3 or 10 under Countdown before the first shot in the Photo booth sheet. The shots after it count down from 3 at most, so the group stays posed. At the top of Booth, a line counts the night's shots and rounds with the start button beside it, and under them Projector opens the Projector tab or turns it on. The shots are listed below, newest round first. Press one to open it. On the website, switching off Guests see it hides it from guests, switching it on shows it again, and Delete moves it to the recycle bin. In the app, the shot opens full size, with Hide (or Show) and Delete at the foot. While the Projector is on, every shot carries a small mark in its corner: a screen for On the projector, a stack of photographs for Album only (the booth's Keep stores a shot album-only, and the projector skips it). Under Filter, All, Album only and On the projector show those shots alone, each with its count, wearing the same marks. To move one, press it: on the website, switch On the projector in its panel; in the app, press Put on the projector or Album only at the foot. Each can be undone for a few seconds in the app. In an app version before 1.3, the eye on a shot is Guests see it.

On the website, Photo booth also offers Print a sign where the event has something to print. It opens one page carrying the code guests scan to see the booth's photos, and the wifi code where the event has a network. In a browser, the booth's waiting screen shows that same code in the lower right corner, labelled See the photos, once the event is published and while Code guests scan is on in Projector settings. To put the wifi code in the lower left corner, turn on Show the wifi code in the Photo booth sheet; it is off on a new event, and needs a network on the Wifi card.

The projector is the party on a TV: its name, the wifi and tonight's photos, or just the name and the wifi when nobody is taking any. Press Turn on on the Projector card, then open Projector. An Apple TV can show it with the Cut the Cake app for Apple TV: see Can I put my party on an Apple TV?

The Projector tab draws a TV with what to do on it: on whatever is plugged into the TV, open cake.red/tv (it leads to the screen page) and type the code. Press the TV to copy what it shows, or for New link, which replaces the code and the link: press it twice, and every screen showing the old one stops. Play on this screen (Play on this iPad in the app on an iPad) makes the device you are holding the screen; on a computer it opens in a new tab, which also lets you hide a picture from the screen. Send the link shares a link that opens the screen with no code to type, or copies it where the browser cannot share. On a computer, while the Projector's settings are open, the TV shows what the screen will display. While a screen is showing the projector, the tab says On a screen now at the top, and your Overview shows On screen beside Settings, which opens this tab. A screen counts once it has opened the code, and stops counting within half a minute of being turned off; the tab you are reading never counts. Switching the Projector off in its settings takes the party off every screen: a screen showing it, or opening it, says The host has turned off this feature, and switching it back on brings the photos back by themselves.

On the website, the photos on the screen are under the code, with how long a lap of them takes. Press one to open its panel: switching off Guests see it takes it off the screen and hides it from guests, switching off On the projector takes an album photo off the screen and leaves it in the album, and Delete moves it to the recycle bin. Each can be undone for a few seconds. With nothing on the screen yet, Choose for the projector opens the album to pick some.

Before the first picture exists, the screen shows a poster: the event's cover picture, if it has one, with the event's name and when it runs. While the banner is on, it carries the name and the time, so a poster with a cover picture shows just the picture, and one without leads with its invitation. The booth's invitation to step in shows only on a screen with no cover picture on it. With Photos off, the screen shows no photos, including booth shots and album photos queued earlier, and the poster says nothing about pictures: with the banner on and no cover picture, the banner is all it shows. An app version older than 1.2 mirroring to a TV still shows the line about photographs.

What the screen shows is in the Projector's settings: press Settings at the top of the Projector tab. In order: how long Each photo shows (3 to 30 seconds, typed or stepped with − and +), the Wifi code, the Code guests scan, which opens tonight's booth photos with no sign-in, and the Banner (Bottom, Top or Off; if the projector cuts off the bottom of the picture, move it to the top). The screen draws the guests' code from the moment the booth is on, before the first shot. With Photos on and no booth or Awards, the screen draws the code labelled Add photos: it takes a guest on your list to the event's photo album to add their own pictures, and asks anyone else to sign in. At an event running Awards it is there from the time nominations open, it opens the awards as well, and a card in the corner of the screen says where the awards stand: see How do I run awards at my event? With the banner off, the codes still show: the wifi code in the lower left corner, the guests' code in the lower right, and the party's name small at the top. An app version older than 1.2.1 mirroring to a TV draws the code once the booth has a picture, none for Photos alone, and no wifi code with the banner off. On a computer the TV on the tab shows each change landing while the settings are open. The wifi code needs a network on the Wifi card in Manage → Features. Under Wifi code the settings name the network, or offer Add the network on the Wifi card, and either opens the Wifi card's sheet. If the banner is set to show a wifi code and no network is set yet, the preview shows an empty slot where it would go, and Play on this screen asks before it opens the screen. With Don't ask again checked, that device won't ask next time.

To make an iPad the screen, plug it into the TV or send it over AirPlay, then press Play on this iPad. Keep your phone as the control rather than the screen.

Test the camera, display connection and guest flow at the venue before relying on them during the event.
